The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has over 180 standing
grant, loan, and loan guarantee programs

USDA grants, loans, and loan guarantees -- with the sole exception of the Section 9003 loan guarantee program for first-of-a-kind renewable energy, renewable chemical, and biobased manufacturing projects -- are restricted to projects that are located in or benefit rural and exurban areas (with populations of 50,000 or less).

USDA Rural Development

USDA Rural Development operates over 50 financial assistance programs for a variety of rural applications.  These programs are grouped into 10 categories. USDA National Institute of Food & Agriculture (NIFA)

USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) provides funding for programs that advance agricultural-related science  to address the agricultural issues impacting people’s daily lives and the nation’s future. The key objectives of NIFA are to:

  • Advance the competitiveness of American agriculture

  • Bolster the U.S. economy

  • Enhance the safety of the nation’s food supply

  • Improve the nutrition and well-being of American citizens

  • Sustain natural resources and the environment

  • Build energy independence
